I think I am an Equinox “type” if there is such a thing, as I was born on 26th March near The Spring/Vernal Equinox. I like transition points, journeys physical and mental. Ahhh Springtime and all its promises. Opportunity Nox and here is your host, Huey Green in the Spring. I also resonate with the Autumn, You can be my balancer of my matter as you’re Black and White. Clear blue Autmn skies as the canvas for the golden leaves. Perks me up.
On these two pivotal days the number of daylight hours equal those of night-time. This is the reason it’s called an “equinox”, derived from Latin, meaning “equal night”. Light and dark, poised. Balanced. At the time of the Spring Equinox there is balance then the Light increases and at the Autumnal Equinox it is vice versa and the Darkness usurps the Light.
Now we are starting to feel drawn to the home to stay indoors longer. Balance time indoors and outdoors. Gradually the days will be really short and we will turn physically and mentally inwards. It’s a natural cycle.
The weather is encouraging us to do this over this weekend. It is like someone said “Cue. Autumn!” and the elements waiting in the wings took the stage. On the first “official” day of Autumn, Saturday 22nd, we had coldness and brightness with sunshine. I love that crispy coldness and that bright blue. I cannot wait to go out into the forest to see the carpet of leaves and wade through them. Maybe next weekend. Today the sky darkened and the rains have fallen.
Light and dark overcast skies. Black and white.
Thinking of black and white, we have the atrocious Badger Cull looming. So this equinox for me, belongs to the badgers. Regarding the cull, we are being given two different views from Owen Patterson, the Environment Secretary and Mary Creagh, the Shadow Environment Secretary. An attempt to offer a balanced argument. Falling on DEFRA ears.
Patterson, who is pro cull was interviewed by the “Farmers Guardian” on Friday and tried to turn the argument on its head by accusing the anti cull lobby of cruelty to badgers because they “want these wonderful animals to die of this disgusting disease (Bovine TB)” Yeah, good point, that’ll be it. Thanks for unearthing our unconscious desires for the badgers to die a horrific death. You want to be an analyst. Don’t give up your day job.
Mary Creagh argues that the cull will be expensive, police have to be deployed to police it and the badgers will flee their areas when the shooters arrive so it will actually spread bovin TB, initially. She advises that Ministers should pay attention to what the scientists are saying. Many prominent scientists warn that the cull will be ineffective and argue that vaccination and better biosecurity, implementing a set of preventative measures designed to reduce the risk of spreading of infectious diseases is the answer.
So it seems it will be On you Marksmen, Get Sett (OMGS). There will be continued opposition. It is National Badger Day on October 6th when I am sure that the badger issue will be given high profile. I will blog something on that day. Embarking on an exercise that does not make any sense might just mean that the cullers might shoot themselves in the foot. .

Opposites come to the fore. Arguments and counterarguments. Light and dark.Day and Night. Conscious and Unconscious.
For the last few weeks I have been devoting some time to balancing and exploring my energies and looking at my unconscious. You have probaly noticed from my other blogs that dreams and such interest me. During the past few weeks, I have taken Reiki and Reiki 2, have been joining in with others to protest against the barbaric hunting of the dolphins/whales in Taiji Cove, attended an Alchemical Marriage for The Sun and Moon , a Lucid Dreaming workshop and a Hypnosis workshop to access higher states through experiencingthe structure of rites, rituals and trances and using the lunar phases to enhance the positive effects.
So I have lots ponder on and to work on during these longer nights. Hopefully my endeavours will bring more balance into my life..I will be moderating myself.
Why bother? Well, I am very wired to be curious. My Mother used to say that I wanted to know the ins and outs of a duck’s a*se
There is this part of me that produces dreams, splurts spontaneous thoughts, reacts to things and people that seem on the surface to be unfamiliar to me. I want to get to know that part. We spend about 30% of our lives asleep. That is when we are in bed conventionally asleep. But are we truly awake for the rest of the time?
“Know Thyself’ was written on the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. It is allegended (new word) that the seven sages of ancient Greece including philosophers, statesmen and law-givers, those people who laid the basis for our western culture, convened in Delphi to inscribe ‘Know Thyself’ at the entry to its scared oracle. Apollo was the Sun God, the symbol of consciouness.
So I have plenty to explore during the darker nights, things to do, dream people to see. I will probably blog things at times.
In the meantime, may I wish you all a Peaceful Equinox and a Good Even-ing.
