National Badger Day 6th October 2012

badger

Well, it is National Badger Day today although I don’t think anyone has told the badgers.

Yesterday the Badger Trust issued a press release.

“The Badger Trust circulates the keynote report summarised below which provides authoritative and independent support for its conviction that the UK agricultural industry is failing to observe tuberculosis restrictions imposed in its own interests.
There can now be no reasonable justification for slaughtering more than 100,000 badgers – a protected species – while such examples of mismanagement and even corruption are allowed to continue.”http://www.badger.org.uk/_Attachments/Resources/716_S4.pdf

I rummaged through a couple of books to look at the symbolism of “badger” as some kind of embryo thought is forming in my brain but I cannot quite grasp it yet.

“The Shamanic Oracle” by Wulfing von Rohr and Kenneth Joseph Estrada offer that the meaning of badger indicates “Perseverance and persistence. A soft energy which can become very strong when it is attacked and wants to and has to protect itself”

Even though the anti cull movement is facing resistance and delay we must keep going. We must stick our claws in and dig deeper and find a way, dig deeper and expose the truth, that culling badgers is not justifiable. Dig deeper and unearth any corruption or false agendas. Badger really gets stuck in and digs deep so it is nigh impossible to keep a secret if badger is around.

Jessica Dawn Palmer’s “Animal Wisdom” adds to the badger symbolism that this tough animal is linked with medicinal roots as it imparted knowledge to humans about which herbs and roots are good to eat. Badger medicine is called upon when deep healing of infection is required.  This energy allows healing to pass deeper within the system and something that I find interesting, is that motions used by Reiki healers to clear blockages are quite akin to those used by the old badger medicine people. I will definitely dig deeper into that little nugget.

Other applications of badger medicine include scrying as it is aware of past, present and future (maybe linked to its colouring black/white unconscious/conscious) and it links to storytelling. It is the call to go beneath the surface of life as it is time to begin to tell a new story about yourself and your life, a deeper one, that brings your Truth to Light.

Talking of storytelling. I refer now to Kenneth Grahame’s “The Wind in the Willows” which informs us ““Badger hates Society, and invitations, and dinner, and all that sort of thing.”

Good to hear Mr Badger! Please remain totally unsociable. Ignore any invitations to dine on Nutella or any other offering that comes from Those Who Dwell in the Big Society From Beyond The Woods.

Be assured that those of us who do not plan to come with false gifts will continue to dig deep and protest on your honourable behalf.

I leave the final word to Kenneth Grahame

“What is the meaning of this gross outrage?”
