Sea Shepherd Cove Guardians reported on today’s events :
“This morning in Taiji, the dolphin killers did not waste any time or spare any lives as they quickly drove in a family of 30 Risso dolphins, making this the sixth pod found within seven days and approximately 246 dolphins slaughtered within the last two weeks.
This pod was about twenty miles out to sea and discovered early, just after the killers left port at 8am. The drive was not without anger or haste as the killing boats headed toward Taiji harbor at full speed; forcing these dolphins to swim toward their death.
One lone dolphin was taken captive. This juvenile was held in a sling by trainers within the killing cove ready for transfer as the remaining 29 dolphins were slaughtered one by one. As the slaughter ended, the captive dolphin was then transported via skiff to the Taiji harbor; proving that the dolphin trainers are present during the slaughter.
Four skiffs dragged the remaining dead dolphin bodies out of the killing cove and toward the butcherhouse. Local Taiji meat buyers attempted to evade our cameras during our livestream. Hiding large bins of fresh dolphin flesh in refrigeration units until they thought we had left. We continued to film and document the transfers despite increased police surveillance. The tension mounts here in Taiji, as we continue to be a strong presence”
One lone juvenile taken for human entertainment. All that is left of his/her pod family.
His/her family before the separation/slaughter
Did you read that? 246 dolphins slaughtered over the past two weeks and so many taken captive to be trained for human entertainment.
It is the live capture that is propping this enterprise up and the orders from all over the world for captive dolphins. Simple economics. Supply and demand. I think that there should be a plaque at the dolphinariums showing the history of the dolphin. It could read “Name: Flapper. Wild dolphin taken from Taiji Drive Hunt. Flapper was the only one saved from his pod. They were slaughtered in the Cove. Have a Nice Day”
Risso meat is the preferred food to eat along with pilot whales.. At this time of year the dolphins are swimming past Taiji on their migratory path so they are easy to locate.
