Oh well the hot summer had to come to an end and September had to arrive. I love this time of year but my heart sinks as it heralds the start of the dreaded Taiji drive hunting of dolphins and small whales.
The quotas have been set. These can be found on cetabase. 1938 animals who are currently swimming freely in the ocean are in peril. 114 short-finned pilot whales, 509 bottlenose dolphins, 261 Risso’s dolphins, 400 pantropical spotted dolphins, 70 false killer whales and 134 pacific white sided dolphins are deemed available to be driven and brutally killed. Some of the bottlenose and others who escape a gory death will be trained for human entertainment.
